Happy New Year!! I hope you have had a wonderful Winter Break. It’s hard to believe with the New Year, comes the start of our 2nd semester! Where has time gone?? Please see information below about Quarter 2 report cards, an opportunity to provide feedback about Welch Elementary School, the Young Authors’ program, the LMC Battle of the Blustems, clubs and activities, and more! It is a GREAT day to be a Welch White Tiger!

Scullen Incoming 6th Grade Elective Night for Parents 6:30 - 7:30 PM @ Scullen

January 7th… I want to let you know that the police will be using our school for a training exercise on Monday, January 7. The school will be closed to visitors during the training. If you drive by our school on January 7, you may notice emergency vehicles parked in our lot. The vehicles will be part of the training. We appreciate the work of the police and are grateful for their help coordinating this training exercise. Please contact my office if you have any questions.

Quarter 2 Report Cards… Grades for 2nd quarter will be posted on Home Access on January 11 after 4:00. If you are unsure of your Home Access log-in information, please contact the school office before January 11 @ 630-428-7200.

Welch Multicultural Night… Unity through diversity-Welch will be hosting its annual Multicultural Night on January 25th, 2019. We want to promote a greater awareness and appreciation of our cultural, regional, and learning diversity. Come explore what makes the Welch community unique. Help is needed in creating booths, organizing interactive demonstrations, music, decorating, coordinating food, set up, clean up. We are looking for anyone who has a connection to a restaurant to work with for this event, as well! If you are interested in helping and/or have a restaurant connection, please contact Natasha Grover at natashag99@gmail.com

Young Authors' Program… Welch Elementary School will again participate in the Young Authors' program. The program is Co-sponsored by the Illinois Language and Literacy Council and the Illinois Reading Council. Every child at Welch may participate in the program— however student participation is optional. Students interested in participating will need to submit their entries by Friday, February 1st. The work selected to represent Welch will be announced at a Young Authors' Café on Wednesday, February 27th. For additional program details, please see the attached .pdf document. Encourage your student(s) to participate and have fun writing!

LMC BATTLE OF THE BLUESTEMS... Will you be at the Battle of the Bluestems this year? If you are in 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade and have read at least 8 Bluestem books this year you can participate on a team at a Welch Battle of the Bluestems on March 5, 2019. If you have read all 20 books you can be a captain! Teams have a maximum of 3 players. Please see Mrs. Domek in the LMC if interested. The following parent permission form must be signed and returned anytime between January 8 - February 26: http://bit.ly/2L0NT2O. Top two teams will be invited to a district Battle of the Bluestems to be held at Graham Elementary school on March 12, 2019 at 5:00pm. FREE English and Citizenship Classes… Please see attached document for information about free English and citizenship classes being offered by the College of Dupage. Learn reading, writing, listening and speaking skills, improve career opportunities, prepare for college, and more!

Scullen 5th Grade Elective Information Night for Parents...Scullen will host an informational night for the parents of incoming 5th graders. These meeting will provide valuable information regarding scheduling choices for electives such as fine arts, PE, and foreign language. The intended audience is for parents new to the elective program at the middle school level. This event will happen on Monday, January 14th from 6:30 – 7:30 pm in the Scullen Commons.
