LOCKDOWN…The safety of our students and staff is always a top priority for our district. We are committed to best practices to keep everyone in our school safe in a variety of situations. Among our efforts to remain diligent about safety is the completion of a law enforcement supervised lockdown drill that we will practice on Thursday, October 11th. We will use this drill as an opportunity to discuss the ALICE concepts with students, in age appropriate ways, and identify opportunities for improvement in emergency response. We appreciate the assistance of local law enforcement in running our drills and helping keep our school safe. Please contact me if you have any questions about this!

YELLOW OUT…Please help us celebrate ALL of our Team IPEF participants by encouraging your White TIgers to wear YELLOW on Friday, 10.11 for the District-Wide Yellow Out Day!

ELECTRONICS DAY…Our White Tigers did an amazing job demonstrating the Welch Way throughout the month of September, and earning Tiger Paws! Because we filled our Tiger Paw box, they have earned a school-wide electronics day on Friday, October 11th. Teachers will incorporate time for students to play a game on a device and will communicate with families if students are invited to bring a device, or if they will be using a school device. Please note that if your student is invited to bring a device from home that they must bring it with them in the morning, as we can not accept devices throughout the day. Thank you!

ROAR… Welch White Tigers are committed to providing time for all of our students and staff to read for pleasure! “The impact of reading for just 20 minutes per day will be exposed to 1.8 million words per year and is more likely to score in the 90th percentile on standardized tests”(Scholastic). Each week we have ROAR (Reach Out And Read) time, where all students and staff drop everything and read. We would love for our students to see adults reading for pleasure, so would love to invite any parent that is interested to join us for ROAR time. This week we will be ROARing on Wednesday, October 9th at 10:20 AM. We read for approximately 15 minutes, and ask that any parent who joins us brings book to read!

WISHTREE…We are excited that we began our One Book One School initiative, made possible by our PTA, this past week. Thank you for your assistance in purchasing this novel for each classroom teacher to share with their class. This month begins our all school read of the Newberry Medal winning book Wishtree by Katherine Applegate. Wishtree is a story that builds community, celebrates friendship and encourages acceptance of all. Over the next few weeks, all students will be participating in activities celebrating kindness, friendship and acceptance. Please take some time this weekend to watch the book trailer and have conversations with your child as we explore this text together. Wishtree Trailer
