WELCH SALUTES VETERANS…On Monday, November 11th, Welch Elementary School will celebrate Veteran’s Day at an all school assembly. At 2:15 PM, students will honor our Veteran’s and celebrate our freedom. We are asking students to wear red, white and blue to help honor our Veterans. A reception has been planned prior to the assembly. Veterans, along with their families and Welch student(s), are invited to attend the reception at 1:45. Upon arrival, the Veterans student will be called down to join them for the reception. We need an accurate count of how many Veterans and Veteran’s families will be attending so we can accommodate all those in attendance. Please fill out the attached form if you will be attending and return to Mrs. Gleason by October 31st.
We will create a Wall of Honor to represent past, present and future Veterans. The wall will be located in the front display cabinets by the office. Stars with the names of veterans and current military members will adorn the wall. A portion of the display will be dedicated “In Memory” of those Veterans who are no longer living. If you wish to submit names and/or pictures for the wall, please fill out the form on the attached page or email the information to email@example.com by October 31st. Please include which branch of the military your honored Veteran served in.
Thank you for helping to honor all our Veterans and to make this special day a success! We owe so much to our troops and this gives us an opportunity to show our appreciation and gratitude for their service. If you have any questions, you may email firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com.

FALL COSTUME PARADE at WELCH…Welch White Tigers will once again have a Fall Costume Parade on Thursday, October 31st that parents are invited to observe. The parade will start at approximately 3:00 PM. Students will exit the building through door #8 (gym door) and parade around the outside of the building, entering the building through door #4 (playground door). Teachers and staff walk with the students and provide supervision. Parents are invited to watch the parade from the back playground area as each class walks around the building. In addition to the parade, students will have the opportunity to participate in a school-wide Dance Party prior to the parade, in addition to different fall themed games and activities within their classrooms throughout the day. As we want to ensure the safety of all students during this day and maintain an environment conducive to learning, we are asking that students follow the following rules: Students are not to wear costumes to school at the beginning of the day— time will be provided after lunches for students to change into their costume. Costumes MUST be able to be put on in the classroom – no students will be allowed to go to the bathroom to change into a costume. Parents should assist their child/ren in making appropriate decisions about what students wear for costumes, ensuring that costumes are school appropriate and meet all of the District 204 Dress Code Guidelines. Please note that
masks are not permitted at school. Please keep play weapons at home. Sharp objects (i.e. wooden swords) may NOT be part of any costume, as we want to ensure all students’ safety. Students not participating in the Halloween Parade on the basis of religious beliefs or family choice will be supervised and provided an alternate activity during this time. To ensure we have materials and plans for this, we ask that you contact Sarah Nowak by October 28th if your child(ren) will not be participating in the parade.
Thank you for your cooperation and support as we enjoy the fun of the season! If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Sarah Nowak (firstname.lastname@example.org)
ROAR… Welch White Tigers are committed to providing time for all of our students and staff to read for pleasure! “The impact of reading for just 20 minutes per day will be exposed to 1.8 million words per year and is more likely to score in the 90th percentile on standardized tests”(Scholastic). Each week we have ROAR (Reach Out And Read) time, where all students and staff drop everything and read. We would love for our students to see adults reading for pleasure, so would love to invite any parent that is interested to join us for ROAR time. This week we will be ROARing on Wednesday, October 30th at 3:05 PM. We read for approximately 15 minutes, and ask that any parent who joins us brings book to read!
E LEARNING DAYS…The State of Illinois has made available the option for school districts to hold e-learning days instead of canceling school when there is severe weather. Our district may use this option, if needed, starting this winter. This new approach provides the opportunity to have a continuum of instruction that models for students that learning can happen anywhere and anytime. It also helps students further develop the technical and organizational skills necessary to work independently. If severe weather would prevent our schools from opening, we will announce an e-learning day the same way we have informed you in the past of weather related school closings. The announcement will be made by 6 am and posted first on Twitter (@ipsd204) and at www.ipsd.org. We will also make a Connect ED phone call to alert you of the information. Please visit our FAQ below to learn more about e-learning days.
