WELCH GIVING TREE…The Holidays are quickly approaching and Welch would like to extend the spirit of giving by offering families and staff an opportunity to contribute a gift to Welch families who may not otherwise be able to provide gifts for their children. During the first few weeks of December, a Giving Tree with ornaments will be up in the main office. Each ornament on the tree will list items that would be greatly appreciated by a Welch child. If you would like to contribute, please stop by the office to grab an ornament. We ask that you write your name on the sheet next to the tree by the corresponding ornament number. If you won’t be in the building but would like to participate, please feel free to call the main office and we can send an ornament home with your child. When you have purchased the item(s) listed on the ornament, the gifts should be wrapped and each package labeled with the corresponding ornament
number (i.e. 13A, 12 B). Gifts can be dropped off at Welch. Wrapped gifts should be returned to school by Friday, December 13th. Thank you so much for keeping the holiday spirit alive at Welch!
Thank you to all families who shopped the book fair. It was a resounding success and we feel fortunate to be in a community where reading is valued. Although the online fair is now closed, anyone still wishing to order the new Dog Man Fetch-22 can do so by printing out the attached order form and give to Mrs. Domek in the LMC before Wednesday, December 4th. The release date for the book is December 10th.

E-LEARNING DAYS…You have likely seen communication from District 204 regarding E-Learning Days as a replacement to the traditional Snow Days. The following has been posted on our district website regarding this change:
The State of Illinois has made available the option for school districts to hold e-learning days instead of canceling school when there is severe weather. Our district may use this option, if needed, starting this winter. This new approach provides the opportunity to have a continuum of instruction that models for students that learning can happen anywhere and anytime. It also helps students further develop the technical and organizational skills necessary to work independently. If severe weather would prevent our schools from opening, we will announce an e-learning day the same way we have informed you in the past of weather related school closings. The announcement will be made by 6 am and posted first on Twitter (@ipsd204) and at www.ipsd.org. We will also make a Connect ED phone call to alert you of the information.
Welch Staff have created an E-Learning Day Choice Board for students to utilize in the event of an E-Learning Day. This Choice Board has been sent home in paper form and via Connect Ed email. We ask that students only utilize and complete the activities on the Choice Board in the event of an E-Learning Day. This Choice Board will be shared again electronically the morning of any E-Learning Day. Please reach out if you have any concerns or questions!
WE NEED YOUR FEEDBACK…Parents across Illinois once again have an opportunity to participate in the annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey
is designed to generate a detailed picture of your child’s school as it relates to the important elements of school effectiveness. On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey is administered online by the University of Chicago. All survey responses will be kept confidential. The state will provide survey results for individual schools only if a school has at least 20 percent of parents take the survey. If you have children attending more than one school, we ask that you complete
the survey for each school.
To take this short survey:
5 Essentials Survey Link
2. Type and select “Dupage” as "County." (The county is the location of the school district's main office.)
3. Type your school's name into the "School" field and select your school.
The Illinois 5Essentials Survey identifies five indicators that can lead to important student outcomes, including test score gains. Research has shown that schools strong on these indicators are ten times more likely to improve student learning. The five indicators that effect school success are effective leaders, collaborative teachers, involved families, supportive environments, and ambitious instruction. Thank you for your feedback.
