Guidelines
- 9:05-9:15 Return all materials for check-in.
- 9:20-3:15 Flexible book checkout by drop ins and visiting classes.

- Number of books per student per loan period of two weeks:
- Kindergarten: 1 book (1st quarter), 2 thereafter
- 1st -5th grade: 2 books
- A book may be renewed once.
- Periodicals may be checked out for three days, with no renewal allowed.
- Reference materials are not to be checked out.
- Overdue notices will be distributed approximately twice each week. These notices are to be given to the students to take home.
- If a student believes that he/she has returned the book, please refer them to LMC personnel.
- Please refer any parent notes, calls or conversations regarding library materials or lost/damaged items to LMC personnel.
- Come to the LMC with a purpose (such as: book checkout, book return, research, a question) in mind and only with permission.
- Speak in a quiet voice if you need to communicate with a partner, LMC staff, or parent volunteer about work you are doing.
- Please walk around the perimeter of the LMC - do not cut through if you do not plan to use the library.
- When passing down the hall around the LMC to get to other classes and to lunch, please do so quietly.
- Use a shelf marker to mark the place on the shelf where you remove a book.
- If you do not choose that book, replace it in the same place. When you have made your selection, return the shelf marker to the circulation desk.
- If you need to use the restroom while in the LMC, please ask permission from an adult and sign out at the circulation desk.
- Be courteous to those around you. Others may be reading and studying.

Borrowed materials should be returned on time! Overdue items must be returned before other checkouts are allowed.

- Students will be expected to cover the cost of replacing a damaged or lost book.
- Checkout privileges will be suspended until the replacement cost of a damaged book has been received.
- Replacement cost for a lost book will be requested after a search by the student and the LMC staff has been made.
- Notification of lost items will be made to parents after the second overdue notice has been sent. If the lost item is found, the payment will be reimbursed.

- Library cards are to be kept in the classroom.
- Teachers are responsible for the management of their students cards.
- Keeping the card in good condition is the responsibility of the student.
- The LMC should be notified immediately if a card is lost, found, or damaged.
- Students losing library cards are responsible for a replacement cost of $1.00.

- All textbooks are bar-coded and should be checked out to students at the beginning of the year.
- The teacher must assess damage to textbooks before assigning the book to a student and as the books are being returned.
- It is district policy that textbook damage is reviewed and those students are held responsible for fines or replacement cost for lost or damaged books.

- Students and staff are expected to use equipment in an appropriate manner.
- There should be no food or beverages placed near computers or any of their parts.
- Keep room computers clean by dusting or wiping with a damp cloth (water only) at least once a month. Turn off the computer before proceeding to clean it. Please do not attempt to clean any internal part of the computer.
Before using the Internet all staff members must sign an Acceptable Use Policy which will be held on file in the office. The AUP policy is available upon request in the main office. The Internet may be used with or by students only under the following guidelines:
- The teacher has a signed AUP policy on file.
- The student has a signed AUP policy on file (including parent signature).
- The teacher has taken the Internet training offered by District #204 or a class that has been approved by the District as appropriate training.
- The teacher must be in direct supervision of the student(s).
- Students may never do a search.
- Students may visit only sites that have been examined by the teacher and approved by the principal. Exceptions to this rule are the Virtual Museum, KidQuest, ProQuest, and Earth Dome.

Production Services
- The lettering machine is housed in the AV room.
- Dies include pattern blocks, fractions, geometric shapes, tangrams, and DNealian letters and numbers.
- Staff and parents who will use this machine need to have an initial lesson with LMC staff.

- This machine is available for special use on documents that need to be bound with spiral binders.
- It is housed in the AV room.
- Please exercise caution when binding materials. Machine handles tend to break easily when binding is done on booklets of extreme thickness.
