Welch First Day Important Information

Reported by lynn_domek@ipsd.org on 8/18/21

I am SO excited to welcome our Welch White Tigers tomorrow! A few reminders for families to ensure everyone is ready to go!

Self-Certification Required Before Coming to School - You MUSTdo this TOMORROW MORNING before school! Parents need to use ParentVUE to self-certify that students coming on campus are free of COVID-like symptoms. The current plan for the 2021-2022 school year is based on transmission level. During low transmission levels, parents will self-certify their children annually. This will change to quarterly in moderate transmission, monthly in substantial transmission, and may increase as necessary in high transmission. When you log in to ParentVUE, you will see a screen asking you to self-certify that your child is symptom free. If this step is not completed and your child is at school, a health services staff member will call you to discuss your child's health status.

The current transmission level is HIGH which requires monthly self-certification. Self-certification will only show up in ParentVUE on a school day. Please self-certify your child on August 19 and again on September 1, 2021.

Please note, if you are using the ParentVUE app to self-certify, you need to make sure you are using the most updated version and are logged in. If you have any difficulties with the app, please use the desktop version to complete self-certification.

We ask that you please monitor your child's health closely and keep them home if they aren't feeling well. You can report your child's absence using ParentVUE after completing the self-certification process.

First Day of School…

We are looking forward to welcoming our 1st - 5th grade students back on Thursday, August 19th! While we typically gather on the blacktop as a building to walk in and start the school year, we will be mixing it up a bit this year to ensure we are socially-distanced. At 8:50 AM on Thursday, August 19th our grade level staff will meet students at assigned doors to welcome them and lead them in to Welch at 9:05 AM. We will have support staff and specialists in the car line and bus line to help students and families locate their grade level peers and teachers.

Students in Grade 1 will meet outside Door #3 (front of building on the far left if looking at the school)

Students in Grades 2-4 will meet outside on the blacktop in the back of the building

Students in Grade 5 will meet outside Door #7 (in the back of the building by the gym)

Kindergarteners and their parents will attend a 30 minute small group session in their classroom on the first day of school, Thursday, August 19th. This is an opportunity for you and your child to meet his or her teacher and other children in the class, in addition to bringing your school supplies. We ask that families come at their designated time and enter through Door #1. All parents and guardians should have their driver’s license with them, as we will need to scan this upon entry to the building. Masks should be worn by everyone while in Welch. Please plan your first day attendance based on the schedule below. Beginning August 20th, kindergarteners will attend school from 9:05 a.m.-3:35 p.m, except for Wednesdays, when attendance hours are from 9:15 a.m. - 3:35 p.m.

Attendance Times on August 19th (Last Names Beginning With)
A-D 9:30-10:00 a.m.
E-H 10:15-10:45 a.m.
I-L 11:00-11:30 a.m.
M-P 1:00-1:30 p.m.
Q-T 1:45-2:15 p.m.
U-Z 2:30-3:00 p.m.

Transportation…

Transportation information is available in StudentVUE and ParentVUE. It will be under the “Other Information” tab at the very bottom. Please know that the start of each school year brings with it the potential for some overcrowding on buses. During the first few weeks of school, especially on high school bus routes, rider counts fluctuate as students explore their various methods of transportation. We ask for your patience as bus drivers and school administrators take daily head counts of high volume routes and adjustments are made to route assignments. Please allow at least 10 minutes for a late bus before calling your school.

For more information on transportation, please visit the IPSD Transportation Page or contact your school.

Bus Rider Reminders...

MASKS REQUIRED: Masks will be required for students riding the bus. This is a federal mandate.

BUS STOP TIMES: Your child's route will be assigned an approximate pick-up and drop-off time. This time may change. Times can vary during the first week and usually a routine is established after the first two weeks.

STUDENT ID: Please note that elementary students do NOT receive student IDS that are needed to board the school bus.

BUS STOP: Show your child where the bus stop is and how to walk home from the bus stop from all possible directions to avoid confusion.

WRONG BUS: Teach your child to tell the bus driver if they believe they are on the wrong bus. Have a conversation about what to do if they get off at the wrong stop or if someone is not home when they arrive. Make sure your child knows they should walk directly home after school unless an alternate plan was discussed. Parents may become worried if children simply stop to play at a neighbor's house on their way home from the bus stop without letting parents know in advance.

RIDING ANOTHER BUS: Students are only allowed to ride their assigned bus. Friends riding with friends on an unassigned bus will not be allowed.

ITEMS NOT ALLOWED ON THE BUS: Have a conversation with your child about making good choices about what can be brought on the bus. Hazardous materials of any kind will not be allowed.

Food Service...

For the 2021-22 school year, we will be providing meals to all students at no cost. However, students will be charged for any a la carte items taken, such as extra milk (not taken with a meal).

The district uses PushCoin for online payments. Payments can be made on a student's lunch account by sending cash or check (payable to IPSD 204) to the school office, or online at pushcoin.com. The District encourages all families to register at no charge at pushcoin.com where you can sign up for automatic alerts and view your student's lunch account. For a small processing fee, credit card payments can also be made directly to a student's account through PushCoin. Information on setting up your account is at PushCoin Help.

If you have any questions, please reach out to me!

It is a GREAT day to be a Welch White Tiger!
