Hello, White Tiger Families!
What a fantastic first few days with our White Tiger students! I can’t tell you how thrilled we are to have them back in person! We are spending these first few days getting to know your students as individuals first and then as learners. Building a positive and caring classroom and building culture is a major priority at Welch, as we want all students to feel safe and welcome each day!

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
If your student is a WALKER, they will be entering and exiting the building from doors #2/#3 (FRONT DOOR WALKERS) or doors #4/#5 (BACK DOOR WALKERS) only at 3:35 PM. Parents are invited to legally park on one of the streets and meet their student(s) at doors #2/#3 or doors #4/#5 if you choose not to use the car pick-up line. A WALKER is any student who is not picked up in the car line or bus rider. We will NOT dismiss students to parents who walk to get them from the car line. Please note that students will only be dismissed through Door #8 if their ride is picking them up in the car line. If your student is a CAR RIDER please follow these procedures: Parents should enter the parking lot off of Cedar Glade. Parents should have their student(s) name displayed on the rear-view window of their car. Car tags will be available at dismissal each day and/or in the main office. If you need additional tags, please email Sarah Nowak (email@example.com) or Gina Getting (firstname.lastname@example.org) and we will ensure that you receive one as soon as possible. Staff will direct parents to one of the assigned loading spots, which will be identified with large numbered signs. Staff will assist students in locating their car at the specified loading spot. It is important that cars have the tags clearly displayed to ensure students locate their car quickly. Parents must stay in their car— staff will assist students as needed. Students may enter and exit vehicles from the passenger side only. As cars load and exit the lot, parents should move forward to the first available loading spot. For example, if you are parked in spot 5 waiting for your student(s) and the cars from spots 3 and 4 leave, you will be asked to move up to loading spot 3. Please note that our buses will be running a bit slower than normal in the afternoons for the first few weeks. To ensure students board the appropriate bus and are where they need to be for dismissal we will be taking attendance on each bus prior to dismissing them from Welch.
In the event your student is tardy to school, a parent MUST bring the child in to the main office to sign them in. To ensure that we have all staff available to assist with dismissal and to ensure that our bus lanes are clear, we ask that if you need to pick up your child early from school that you do so before 3:10 PM. Whenever you pick up your child(ren) early from school please note that we will call them down once you arrive to ensure they don’t miss any additional time from their classroom. Feel free to build in a few extra pick up minutes when planning for doctor appointments, etc. If you have to change your child’s dismissal we ask that you contact the office no later than 3:00 PM. This allows time for us to communicate with your student and their teacher(s).
Breakfast - Welch offers a breakfast program for students— students will be able to eat their breakfast upon arrival to school prior to the start of the school day. Breakfast will be served from 8:50 AM - 9:00 AM (9:00 AM - 9:10 AM on Wednesdays) as a grab and go. If your child is planning on eating breakfast at school, they must arrive right when it starts in order to have enough time to eat.
Self-Certification - As a reminder, all parents need to use ParentVUE to self-certify their students coming to Welch are free of Covid-like symptoms. The current plan for the 2021-2022 school year is based on transmission level. During low transmission levels, parents will self-certify their children annually. This will change to quarterly in moderate transmission, monthly in substantial transmission, and may increase as necessary in high transmission. The current transmission level is HIGH which requires monthly self-certification. Self-certification will only show up in ParentVUE on a school day. Please self-certify your child as soon as possible if you have not already done so, and again on September 1, 2021.
Wednesday Late Start - District 204 adjusts the starting time for students on Wednesday mornings. This set block of time for teachers to work collaboratively on improving student learning will occur each Wednesday before school. The start of the elementary school day will be adjusted to 9:15 AM. School staff will be available to supervise students beginning at 9:00 AM. Students will enter the building and report directly to their classrooms for supervision by their classroom teachers.. Bus pick-up on Wednesday mornings will be ten minutes later than your child’s regularly scheduled morning pick-up time. If your child does not ride a bus to school, and you are unable to make arrangements for your child to arrive at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday mornings, your child will be able to arrive at school at the regular time, 8:50 a.m., and he/she will read quietly in the hallway until arrival begins at 9:00 a.m. This silent reading time will be supervised by Welch staff members.
Welch Curriculum Night - Please mark your calendars for this fall’s Curriculum Night. This evening is designed to allow parents the opportunity to better get to know their child’s teacher and hear about the curriculum designed for their child’s grade level. This year’s Curriculum Night will be held virtually and will be held on Wednesday, September 1st, for all grade levels. Each grade level has two identical sessions from which to choose.
First Session: 6:00-6:30 p.m Second Session: 6:45-7:15 p.m.
Please reach out with any questions or concerns! Thank you for sharing your children with us!
It is a GREAT day to be a Welch White Tiger!
