Updated Information and Quarantine Policies
Indian Prairie School District 204 will administer aimswebPlus benchmark assessments this fall to students in kindergarten through eighth grade. These brief Illinois Learning Standards aligned assessments evaluate student academic performance and growth in the areas of reading and mathematics. Specifically, depending on grade level, literacy measures will assess vocabulary, phonological awareness, word recognition, reading comprehension and reading fluency. Additionally, depending on grade level, numeracy measures will assess number sense, operations, algebraic thinking, measurement/data, geometry, fractions and ratios/proportions. The assessment results are used by teachers and administrators to assist with instructional planning and differentiation at the grade, classroom, and student level. If you have questions, please contact me!
As a reminder, all parents need to use ParentVUE to self-certify their students coming to Welch are free of Covid-like symptoms. The current plan for the 2021-2022 school year is based on transmission level. During low transmission levels, parents will self-certify their children annually. This will change to quarterly in moderate transmission, monthly in substantial transmission, and may increase as necessary in high transmission. The current transmission level is HIGH which requires monthly self-certification. Self-certification will only show up in ParentVUE on a school day. Please self-certify your child on September 1, 2021.
Quarantine and COVID Protocols
Though there is no doubt that we all want to get back to pre-pandemic ways, we have been reminded that we are very much still in the midst of a pandemic. The information below is from Dr. Talley's communication regarding how COVID cases will be shared this year across the district, including at Welch.
Notification of Positive COVID-19 Cases in Schools
Positive cases of COVID-19 in your child's school can be found on the District's COVID Dashboard. The dashboard includes all positive cases of COVID-19 reported to District 204 for individuals who were on campus. The information is updated each Monday by 4 pm. If your child is in close contact with someone who tested positive, a member of the COVID-19 Response Team will notify you directly regarding the need to quarantine as a precaution. Additional information found on this page includes the current transmission level and a link to the corresponding mitigation strategies.
Parents will be notified if their child is considered a close contact with someone who tested positive. Our COVID-19 Response Team at Welch is our Registered School Nurse,Kathy Wagner, and our Certified School Nurse, Yvette Nalstas. If your child is considered a close contact, you will be given a Quarantine Information Sheet (K-2, 3-5) along with your child's return date, to provide information on what schooling will look like for your child during quarantine. Additionally, I have sent the link with the District’s Fall Plan with slides 10-13 providing information regarding isolation and quarantine for our elementary students.
We appreciate you talking with your child about the importance of proper mask wearing and physical distancing to help in supporting our goal of keeping our students in school. Thank you for your support as we do our best to provide transparency while also protecting the confidentiality of our students and staff.
Welch offers a breakfast program for students— students will be able to eat their breakfast upon arrival to school prior to the start of the school day. Breakfast will be served from 8:50 AM - 9:00 AM (9:00 AM - 9:10 AM on Wednesdays) as a grab and go. If your child is planning on eating breakfast at school, they must arrive right when it starts in order to have enough time to eat.
White Tiger Wednesday
The first Wednesday of each month is White Tiger Wednesday! These are days we encourage all of our students and staff to show their Welch spirit by wearing Welch spirit wear and/or our Welch colors, green and white!
Welch Curriculum Night
Please mark your calendars for this fall’s Curriculum Night. This evening is designed to allow parents the opportunity to better get to know their child’s teacher and hear about the curriculum designed for their child’s grade level. This year’s Curriculum Night will be held virtually and will be held on Wednesday, September 1st, for all grade levels. Each grade level has two identical sessions from which to choose. Our support staff and specialists will also have sessions for parents to attend. Curriculum Night Zoom links will be shared on Tuesday, August 31, 2021.
